What to Expect at Your First Podcast Recording Session in Los Angeles
Updated: Sep 3

The idea for the show is usually fine. The first session is what stalls people.
You picture cables. You picture three cameras in your face. You already hate how you sound on voice notes. A first podcast recording session in Los Angeles should not feel like a test you can fail.
This is how a standard 90-minute block runs at Goldmine Podcast Studio in Hollywood, from the gate to the files. Written from the room, not from a gear list.
Before You Leave the House
Bring talking points, not a script. Full sentences on a page turn into reading. Reading dies on camera.
Send your guest the address:
1141 Seward St., Los Angeles, CA 90038
Tell them to arrive 15 minutes early. Include the parking and gate note so they are not circling the block while you are already in a chair.
Tell the studio what colors you are wearing. Lighting gets matched to you. You do not need a full wardrobe brief. Avoid loud logos and fabrics that scream under lights.
Leave extra cameras and random mics at home unless the studio agreed in advance. On session, only Goldmine Podcast Studio staff move studio gear.
Arrival: The 15 Minutes Before the Clock Starts
You pull into VIP gated parking. That is the point of arriving early in LA: your guest is not hunting street spots with a mic anxiety already running.
Someone meets you. The set is already standing. You are not watching a 40-minute light build.
Sit. Use the restroom. Let your voice wake up. Those 15 minutes are for nerves. They are also so sound check does not eat the conversation.
If you arrive at the exact start time, the first thing you lose is the check. The record block gets shorter. That is the usual first-timer tax.

The First 10–20 Minutes: Sound Check
Setup and sound check are inside the 90 minutes, typically 10–20 minutes at the start. They are not a free extra hour.
What happens:
Mic on, distance set, headphones if you need them
An on-site engineer in the room. Levels, backups, “say that again for the meter.” You do not press Rec and hope
A three-camera set with live switch. You get told where to look so the cut has somewhere to go
Light on faces, not on the wall behind you
A short test: say your name, sit the way you will sit for the episode
This chunk of the slot is real. That is why the outline is done before you sit down. Do not invent the episode in the chair while the engineer is waiting on a sound.
A Simple Clock for the Day
When | What |
15 min before start | Parking, gate, sit |
First 10–20 min of the 90 | Mics, cameras, light, sound check |
Rest of the 90 | Record |
After | Ready-for-edit files, usually the same business day |
The Recording Block
The rest of the time is the conversation.
If you trip on a line, stop and say it again. Do not apologize for three minutes. If you later book post, a clean pickup is easy to cut. On the session, keep moving.
The engineer watches the kit. Your job is the talk. That split is the whole product: a video session, with WAV as part of the same block, not an audio booth you figure out alone.
Your guest follows the same rules you did: early, parked, clothes that work on camera. A late guest is not “Hollywood energy.” It is a shorter episode.
If someone is joining remote, say so when you book. Hybrid is a different setup. Do not surprise the room on the day.
You will not walk out with a finished YouTube upload. You walk out with ready-for-edit files:
Line-cut video
Isolated camera files
WAV audio per mic
Publish after you — or an editor — cuts it.

Wrap and the Next 24 Hours
When the 90 is up, the block is up. If you are still mid-thought, ask before you run long. The studio will tell you on the clock, not in a surprise invoice story after you have left.
Files are produced the same business day in the usual case:
Line-cut video — 1080p
Isolated camera files
Isolated audio per mic — WAV
Handoff is a client SSD or a cloud link. Confirm the method before you leave. Cloud transfer can be its own step. Do not assume a Dropbox is already spinning while you are in the car.
Goldmine Podcast Studio deletes session files from studio systems 30 days after the recording date unless you bought extended storage.
Download. Back up. That clock is yours.
Editing is not included in the session. If you want a cut, that is a separate conversation after you have the files, not a panic ask during goodbye.
What First-Timers Usually Get Wrong
Showing up at the start time. You skip the settle and compress sound check. Arrive 15 minutes early.
A full script. You read. The cameras make it obvious. Talking points only.
Thinking the studio day is a finished YouTube video. You get a proper capture. The cut is still a cut.
FAQ
How long is a first podcast recording session in Los Angeles?
At Goldmine Podcast Studio, the standard block is 90 minutes. Sound check sits in that time, usually about 10–20 minutes. Plan the outline so the talk fits the rest.
Should I arrive early?
Yes. 15 minutes early. Parking and a gate are part of the session in Hollywood. Late arrival shortens the recording.
Will someone run the cameras and sound?
Yes. An engineer is on site for the session. Goldmine’s standard set is three cameras with live switch.
You talk. They run the room.
What should I bring?
Bring your outline, guest, and clothes you already told the studio about.
An SSD is useful if you want files on a drive that day. Do not bring a pile of extra cameras unless it was booked.
Do I get the files the same day?
Ready-for-edit files are typically produced the same business day.
That is a line-cut plus isolated camera and audio, not a posted episode. Download within 30 days.

See the Room Before the 90 Minutes Start
Fear of a first session is mostly not knowing the clock.
A 30-minute tour shows the set, the parking, and who is in the room with you. Then the recording day is a known shape.
